I was informed by a colleague that today was National Commemoration Day (determined by the United Nations). Although I couldn’t find anything on the interwebz to back it up, I decided to declare today National Mr. Darcy Day! I mean, why the heck not?

For countless years, this fictional character has conjured up deep feelings in women (and some men I presume!) across the globe. With his dark and brooding demeanor, Mr. Darcy captured the hearts of, dare I say, millions. But why? Is it his dominance and controlling nature? It’s hard to pinpoint and no one really knows for sure.  He’s arrogant and self absorbed, yet charming and well mannered. What is it about this combination that has us in all in a frenzy?

I visited Etsy and was blown away by the available memorabilia (greeting cards, t-shirts, posters, mugs, jewelry, magnets, etc.) dedicated to the man who’s proposal quote melts my heart to this day: “In vain have I struggled. It will not do. You must allow me to tell you how ardently I admire and love you.”

On this fine day of June, let your Pride and Prejudice flag fly and toast your goblets to Mr. Darcy!
