Do Your Part: Animal Protection Day
Whether you’re a crazy cat lady, or a dog lover, we’re pretty confident that each of you has held, or currently holds, a soft spot for a furry friend. What’s not to love about an animal companion? They’re non judgmental, loyal, good natured (well, most of them), and doctors say petting a cat or a dog can add years to your life. They’re kind of incredible, which is why we get super bummed out over those ASPCA commercials with Sarah McLachlan’s melancholy vocals spilling out over sad puppy eyes and sorrowful kitten faces. If those ads don’t send you reaching for a box of Kleenex, we don’t know what will. Whenever they come on, we change the channel. But honestly, we’re sad for a reason, right? Pets are abused all over the world and we shouldn’t just turn a blind eye. We’re not saying you should force yourselves to watch the commercial. Don’t torture yourselves! But if you feel for those little balls of fur like we do, then you should do something about it.
Today is Animal Protection Day. Don’t worry; we didn’t know what that meant either. But we looked into this awesome commemorative holiday and found some cool ways people can help. Check your local listings to see if there are any events taking place. A lot of animal rescue shelters hold fundraising events and open days, wildlife groups organize information displays, schools undertake animal-related project work people can donate to animal charities or pledge to sponsor a shelter animal.
Let’s do our part and help!
