Imprisoned Writers Day: Support Those in Need

Today is a day to show appreciation for our freedoms. It’s easy to take our writing freedoms for granted because so many have fought for them so we don’t have to worry about it. According to Wikipedia, today is Imprisoned Writer Day, which is celebrated internationally every year “to recognize and support writers who resist repression of the basic human right to freedom of expression and who stand up to attacks made against their right to impart information.” We were saddened to hear that from November 2007 through today, 39 writers have been killed, mostly for fulfilling their role as journalists.

There are five imprisoned writers who currently need our help. Please click their photos below to read their story and learn how you can send an appeal letter on their behalf.
