In the last few days Hurricane Sandy raged over the east coast, after it had devastated parts of the Caribbean. Sandy claimed many lives and left thousands homeless.
Every year, around the world, a number of natural disasters destroy lives and livelihood. Whether it’s Hurricane Katrina, the devastating earthquake in Haiti or the Asian tsunami – the list of natural disasters is long and brings countless human tragedies.
We’d like to give you the opportunity to contribute and support the people who have lost almost everything because of an unforeseen disaster. Use your writing talent and enter your story, poem, play or drabble regarding “natural disasters” and BookRix will donate $2 for each and every book entered in the campaign. Your entry can be fictional, autobiographical, factual or romantic. Everything is allowed, as long as the subject pertains to “natural disasters” and is completed work.
October 31st marks the start of a very special event at BookRix. We know natural disasters can happen anywhere and at anytime. We can all do our part to help those in need.
* You can enter as many stories as you like, but they should be natural disaster related.
* There are no page/word limits, but the book MUST have a cover and should be completed stories.
* Submit your story between Oct. 31-Nov. 26, 2012, 11am EST, 4pm London Time/GMT.
* Each book entered in the campaign will represent $2 that will be donated, by BookRix, to the Red Cross for disaster relief.

September 4th is National Wildlife Day!
We all know that more and more animals are becoming endangered every day, but most of us aren’t doing anything to help. National Wildlife Day is trying to bring awareness to this serious situation. Zoos and animal sanctuaries need help to keep the animals safe and happy, but that’s not all – there are so many animals out in the wild that are being hurt or killed because of our progress and brutal farming. We need to give the animals a voice and help them fight for their lives. Today is a great day to visit your local zoo, adopt a pet, and donate to your local animal shelter or an online wildlife rescue center to help in any way you can. If we all help, we can make a difference!
If you want to donate, or learn more, here are some great places to start:

Greenpeace is especially adept at making videos that encourage/horrify viewers into helping. Their approach might seem brutal to some, but it’s effective:

A big thank you is owed to all those who participated between November 5th through 19th by either uploading a book to BookRix or becoming a fan of BookRix on Facebook for our recent charity campaign! More than 500 books were uploaded from start to finish!
Because of some fabulous BookRix members, the charity – Room to Read - will be receiving a $700 donation from BookRix to help fund their quality programs that provide direct benefits to children. The Reading Room, School Room, Girl’s Education and Local Language Publishing program efforts from Room to Read are felt around the world. This year Room to Read even opened their 10,000 library to underprivileged children. Currently, their efforts are focused in Bangladesh, Cambodia, India, Laos, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Vietnam, South Africa and Zambia.
Several BookRixers really got into this charity benefit by sending out motivational messages to their friends to encourage them to upload new books on to the BookRix site. BookRix hopes to continue this tradition of good deeds in the future so stay tuned for other BookRix Charity Campaigns to come in the future!
In the meantime, take a look at what fellow BookRix authors contributed to the charity campaign.
